Tutorial Structure & Topics

What is included in a TExES tutoring session?

I provide one-on-one and small group virtual tutoring for Texas educators preparing for TExES certification exams.

A typical session includes:

  • looking at the characteristics of a "perfect world" classroom and how that differs from what we might have experienced in the real world,
  • discussing the Educator Competencies assessed on your exam,
  • providing clarification for topics that you may need help understanding,
  • working through practice questions together to dig into the language that is being used, and
  • applying test taking strategies that have helped me personally be successful on all of my TExES exams.

Which TExES exams are supported?

My expertise is in general test taking strategies and assistance with understanding the Educator Competencies assessed on:

  • ESL Supplemental
  • Special Education Specialist EC-12
  • Core Subjects EC-6
  • Core Subjects 4-8
  • Individual content areas EC-6 and 4-8
  • ELAR and Social Studies 7-12
  • Physical Education EC-12
  • Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities (PPR)
  • Science of Teaching Reading (STR)
  • Pedagogy section of LOTE exams

* Additional exams considered upon request *

Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact Danielle at Oakley.TExES.Tutor@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

At this time, all tutorials are provided virtually over Zoom. This allows for more flexibility with scheduling, and it eliminates travel expenses and traffic hazards.

The number of sessions varies from person to person based on their needs. Some people only need 1-2 sessions to clarify topics and practice test-taking strategies, while others may need 5 or more sessions to fill in gaps in content knowledge.

No, attending tutorials does not guarantee that you will pass your exam. The goal of tutorials is to target areas of growth, clarify misconceptions, brush up on content knowledge and skills, and equip teachers with strategies to more successfully and confidently choose correct answers on their exams.

As a general practice, I do NOT record sessions - I have found that people are much less likely to participate when they know they are being recorded.

That said, I am happy to record one-on-one tutorials in Zoom by request and send you a copy of the video for future reference. I do not maintain a collection of recordings to share with others, and I would not share a recording with anyone other than the person participating in the tutorial in which is is requested.

In order to reduce the number of sessions for budget planning purposes, I can provide practice materials at the end of a session that can be done on your own and discussed over email. Email support is provided at no additional cost as I consider that to be a basic communication component of the test prep process.

Study materials may include a combination of free recommended websites and AI-generated items created with ChatGPT, Canva, and/or NotebookLM.
