Summer 2025 Sessions Now Available!

Many TExES exams assess similar competencies related to instruction, assessment, and support for students from special populations. In these sessions, I will target these overlapping competencies by providing content knowledge alongside discussion of sample questions similar to those found in the TExES Prep Manuals.

Gain an understanding of English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and appropriate linguistic supports for each proficiency level.


 

Questions about supporting English Learners (ELs) and Emergent Bilinguals (EBs) in the classroom show up on several TExES exams, including Core Subjects, PPR, and (of course) the ESL Supplemental.

In this interactive online course, participants will gain an understanding of the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and appropriate linguistic supports for ELs and EBs at each proficiency level in order to be better informed when selecting answer choices on TExES exams.


Participants will:

  • gain an understanding of the "perfect world" represented on certification exams and how that impacts instruction of English Learners (ELs) and Emergent Bilingual students (EBs) in the classroom scenarios
  • gain an understanding of the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
  • discuss appropriate linguistic supports for ELs and EBs at each proficiency level
  • determine a student's proficiency level based on sample work
  • apply this learning to several practice questions

Explore research-based instructional practices and assessment methods in order to be better informed when selecting answers on TExES exams.


 

All TExES exams contain questions related to understanding appropriate instructional practices and assessment methods related to the content and grade levels covered by the individual exams.

In this interactive online course, participants will explore current, research-based instructional practices and assessment methods in order to be better informed when selecting answer choices on TExES exams.


Participants will:

  • gain an understanding of the "perfect world" represented on certification exams and how that impacts instruction in the classroom scenarios
  • gain an understanding of instructional practices that lead to high student engagement, academic conversation, and collaboration
  • gain an understanding of the different types of assessments and how they are used to assess student learning
  • gain an understanding of differentiation strategies and accommodations referenced in exam questions about students in Bilingual/ESL, Special Education, and Gifted/Talented programs.
  • learn test taking strategies applicable to TExES exams
  • apply this learning to several practice questions
